A place to call home

We know how much of a big step living independently can be. 

It might have been your goal for a long time but you’re worried you might not be able to manage.

We can support you in your daily life with:

  • Making household decisions that are right for you and your situation
  • Your personal care needs, such as showering and dressing
  • Domestic and household tasks to maintain your home environment
  • Preparing and delivering meals
  • Supervising or assisting with tasks involved in your daily life in either independent living or a shared living environment.

You can get the support you need so you can secure your independence and enjoy your life.

Accommodation services to help you live independently

Hands On People is here to help you succeed at living independently. 

We make it easy for you to get the support you need without all the trouble of having to take on everything yourself.

We can provide support to help you live independently in the short-term, medium-term or long-term.

For caregivers, we also provide respite accommodation services.

  • In-home support like personal care, cooking, laundry, medication, etc
  • Capacity building through various programs such as our Veggie Garden, DIY Projects, etc
  • Homes are tailored to your specific requirements
  • Expand your social circle in group living and community activities

Short Term/Respite Accommodation

Short Term Accommodation (STA) or Respite is a support provided to you for a short period of time when you are away from your usual home. It covers personal care, accommodation, and food for up to 14 days where you stay with other people, or by yourself.

Medium Term Accommodation

Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) can be provided to you for up to 3 months (90 days) if you are awaiting confirmation for a long-term housing solution or waiting for your disability related modifications to be done at your home. It covers only the accommodation costs and not any daily living costs such as food, internet or electricity.

Supported Independent Living

Supported Independent Living (SIL) helps participants with high personal support needs with daily tasks to help them increase their skills and live as independently as possible. This is paid personal support that covers tasks like cooking meals, but doesn’t cover daily expenses or rent.

We started Hands On People because we believed we could do better for Territorians with a physical, intellectual or psychosocial disability. We could see how challenging it was for people just like you to get the right advice and support to make the most of the NDIS. It should be easy to access the help you need so you can live an independent and meaningful life. 

Our team have worked in health and disability services for more than 10 years and know exactly how the NDIS works. It might seem confusing and scary, but we’re experienced in navigating the system and linking up participants with the right supports. We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. We work closely with you to develop your capacity to achieve your goals and be an active part of your community.

The NDIS is the National Disability Insurance Scheme. It’s how people under the age of 65 who have a disability can get the care and supports they need.

The NDIS is for those with a permanent and significant disability which impacts on their ability to take part in everyday activities.

If you’re eligible, you will work out the reasonable and necessary supports you need to live your life and achieve your goals. You’ll then receive funding to pay for these supports.
